Cal-Neva Resort Investigation
Marilyn Monroe's Cabin (Part I)

Okay I admit it. I'm a hopeless film buff, anything...especially film noir and anything with Marilyn Monroe. So...when I got the call asking if I would like to conduct an investigation of the Cal-Neva Resort at Crystal Bay (Lake Tahoe) I naturally said, "YES!"

My first investigation of the resort was featured on the Travel Channel, and that was fun..But investigating Marilyn Monroe's cabin and Frank Sinatra's showroom was fantastic! I mean here is the very place that Frank Sinatra once owned. Here he entertained his rat pack buddies, Marilyn Monroe, the Kennedys, and mobster Sam Giancana. In fact it was Sam Giancana's presence on the premises that cost Frank Sinatra his Nevada gaming license.

In Marilyn's Cabin

As I entered the cabin for the first time I was struck by how very small it was. Marilyn Monroe was a superstar and yet this is such a tiny space. But the view! It's a million dollar view to be sure. There are those who claim the cabin is haunted by the spirit of Marilyn. Looking out the window at the lake, I can understand this. But is it Marilyn who haunts the cabin? Probably thousands of people have stayed here since the star's untimely death. Isn't it possible that one of them loved the cabin enough to return to it after death? I believe it is. However, the ghostly Marilyn's been spotted in the swimming pool, the halls of the new hotel and in the parking lot; and there are those who come to the cabin specifically to talk with the spirit of Marilyn, so....After three investigations of the Cal-Neva I believe that there is some energy in the cabin. Whether or not, it is Marilyn I am not sure. If Marilyn is in residence, she is certainly very busy. After all, she's been spotted at her old home in Westwood, the cemetery where she is buried, the demolished Mapes Hotel in Reno, The Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood, and probably other places as well. There are numerous rumors concerning how she spent her time at the Cal-Neva and the men she entertained there. One that has a ring of truth is the story that she died of a drug overdose in the cabin one week before her death in Westwood. Barely alive she was secreted out of the tunnel (Oh yes, there's a secret tunnel on the premises..see photo below)driven to Reno and put on a plane headed toward Los Angeles. Photo at left is of the pool in which Marilyn's apparition has been seen swimming many times since her death. Note that the Nevada/California stateline runs down the center of the pool.
At right is a photo of Cal-Neva's tunnel. It was here that Marilyn was sneaked out. Note the orb to the right of the investigators.
