 Earthbound Spirit
As paranormal researchers we often encounter earthbound spirits. These are spirits who, for whatever reason, choose not to move on. There are several theories as to the why a spirit might make the choice to stay on the earth plane rather than continue the natural progression. Let us examine one of those reasons.
First and foremost is fear
Suppose for a moment that you have just transitioned. You may be somewhat confused and disoriented; especially when you realize that death is not the oblivion you believed it would be. While you are fully cognizant of your surroundings, no one seems to be aware of you. You hold no concepts of time and space; neither exists. The familiar physical realm is no longer yours. You are an ethereal being; as such you cannot interact with those on the physical plane. While you may be quite comfortable having slipped out of the confines of the physical, this is, nonetheless, a new experience; fear of the unknown quickly takes over.
With fear come questions. How best will you resolve your dilemma? Will you continue the necessary progression or will you remain within the familiar? As a being of free choice, you must make that decision for yourself. If we are required to learn lessons in life, it stands to reason that progression would require an examination of your life (earth existence.) Would that be too painful? Time and space have no meaning; decades may pass on the earth plane while you ponder your decision. Or you may opt not to make a choice at all. Regardless, you will remain in a sort of limbo state until you progress. It is in this limbo state that you become an earthbound spirit.
As an earthbound spirit confusion is your lot. You may pretend that all is well and may even attempt to interact with the physical. Those in the physical who are more in tuned, perhaps mediums and psychic sensitives, may even be aware of, and communicate with you. In some instances this will result in the psychic sensitive asking you to “move on.”
Free choice; right or wrong
Right or wrong, we choose. It doesn’t necessarily follow that knowing what is right and wrong will lead us to make the right choices. While there is much talk of soul rescue, the earthbound spirit is a being of free choice; the only rescue will come of self and will only occur when the spirit chooses to progress in the natural order of things. Paranormal investigators, who realize that earthbound spirits cannot be moved except by choice, will not waste time attempting to persuade an earthbound spirit to "go toward the light." Perhaps, in time, the earthbound spirit will choose what is right. The decision will be of free choice and not as a result of any "nagging" or cajoling, no matter how well intentioned .
