Where The Ghosts Are Part 2 |
Hospitals By their very nature, hospitals are probably
haunted. However, you should never attempt an investigation within a hospital.
Unless of course, it has been
converted to another type building (St. Mary's Art Center in Virginia City and
the Logan Professional Building in Gardnerville are two examples of hospitals
that have been converted for other uses) I have investigated both buildings and
I believe that both are indeed haunted. The lamp at left hangs in the Logan
Professional Building (which was the first hospital in Carson Valley). During an
investigation, the owner of the building told me that she has come into the room
and seen the lamp swinging of its own accord many times.
Museums Museums are history. Among the displays are the
belongings of long dead people. What of those spirits who cling to a favorite
possession long after death? Wouldn't it seem that they might stick around in
the museum with their possessions? Ask a museum employee. Some tell of strange
noises and cool bursts of air that have no logical explanation. At the Nevada
State museum in Carson City, there are stories about mysterious footsteps and
the elevator that apparently moves by itself. The museum was formerly a United
States mint. Apparently one death occured in the mint. While he was working in
the mint's basement on December 12th 1872, Osborne Parker was crushed when
equipment fell on him. Is Mr. Parker the mysterious ghost at the museum? Or is
it Abe Curry as some claim? For your first ghost photography session, a museum
is probably your best choice.
Schools It
might not seem so the way some children dread the coming of a new school year.
But old schools are generally just as haunted as old theaters. Often times it is
a student who doesn't realize that he/she has died. Occasionally, a ghostly
teacher will choose to haunt a school and its playground. Elementary schools
aren't the only schools that are haunted. Many high schools and colleges have
resident ghosts. A popular haunted school here in Nevada is the Fourth Ward
School in Virginia City. Supposedly a ghostly teacher and a few students have
decided to stay in the old building.
Scenes of Great
Tragedy Any place where terrible tragedy has occured may also be
haunted. Take for instance the Donner State Park in California. In 1846 the
Donner Party set out for California from Independence Missouri. When they became
stranded by heavy snowstorms high in the Sierras, nearly half the party
perished. Eventually some of the others resorted to cannibalism as a means of
survival. Is the park haunted by some of the restless spirits of the Donner
Party? There are people who believe that it is. The battleground at Little Big
Horn where George Armstrong Custer and his men lost their lives is another spot
that is haunted. Gettysburg, is another. In India there were reported sightings
of ghostly passengers wandering the site of a tragic plane crash.
Exploring Certainly tragedy and sudden, unexpected death
are believed to be the causes of a number of hauntings. But, it isn't always
where someone died, as it is where they lived. You might find paranormal
activity any place that people live and enjoy their lives. Think of casinos,
restaurants, and parks too. After all, a spirit may just as easily return to a
favorite location.
