 THE SPIRIT CIRCLE
According to Shakespeare, a rose is a rose is a rose. So it is with the spirit circle, energy circle and séance. All are one in the same. In an attempt to put distance between themselves and the images that may come to mind at the word séance, some paranormal researchers refer to their séances as spirit circles. Some people refer to their cars as automobiles. It is a matter of semantics. Regardless of what term we choose, the spirit circle/séance is an attempt to make contact with those who have transitioned. Communicating with the dead is after all, the purpose of the spirit circle, or séance.
While two persons can conceivably conduct a spirit circle, the optimum number is from three to twelve people (sitters.) Those who laugh at the notion of spirit communication are naturally discouraged from sitting at the circle. The séance, or spirit circle, is an attempt to reach across the barriers of time and space and death; those who strongly disbelieve, don't have open minds and are therefore not good candidates. A generally accepted belief is that a disbeliever sitting in the séance or spirit circle will not bring desired spirit contact.
If possible, the spirit circle is held on a full moon night. The séance is usually conducted at a round wooden table that is adorned with fresh flowers, incense and candles. The circle is led by one specific person; this is usually the person who is a strong intuitive, or has mediumship abilities.
As the séance, or spirit circle opens (begins) the circle leader generally asks that sitters relax, take a deep breath and join hands; then he/she will offer a prayer or invocation asking that the circle be blessed and that only positive energies be permitted into the circle. Think of the séance leader as a moderator. No one should blurt out opinions or questions until
the "moderator" calls upon them to do so. Usually the spirit circle will last from one to two hours.
